Whether you are launching a business or a seasoned pro there may come a time when you need to attract new clients. The good news is it’s easier than ever to find clients. Although it requires work, it’ll be worth it. For new businesses just launching it takes awhile to build your audience and attract new clients/customers. Due to that, you have to put yourself out there and search for the clients yourself. These tips helped me grow my business and continue to find new clients.
Word of Mouth
I cannot stress enough how important it is to tell everyone what you do and who your business is. That includes posting valuable content on social media with clear brand messaging that lets people know who you are. Remember people need to be told 7 times before it sticks, so be repetitive! Tell your family, friends, peers, coworkers, etc. I got half of my clients from telling people who I already knew how I could serve them and help them with their businesses, and from referrals from clients and friends. You would be surprised how many people can use your service or product but do not know that it exists, or what it is.
Pitch Brands/Customers
If you have a portfolio and testimonials pitch brands for jobs you want. A great way to do this is by researching the market. LinkedIn, Indeed and Monster are great resources to find companies looking for people with your skillset and offering. Look for businesses seeking freelance positions and pitch the hiring manager for that position directly. The best way to find the direct contact is to go on LinkedIn and find the company. Search for the department you want to pitch and get the contact for the person you want to send you portfolio to. If you don’t have a LinkedIn business account you can find email addresses for almost anyone on RocketReach. I would start by pitching a minimum of 10-40 people per month for the best conversions.
Freebies
Freebies sell! Read that again. I am a firm believer that in order to grow your business and audience you have to earn business credibility and loyalty. The fastest and best way to do that is to give away VALUABLE resources, products or services for free. I’m not suggesting that you gift everyone you know with free products or work for free. However, when you are building a businesses you have to start somewhere. Be selective of who you are accepting trades from and who you are gifting products to. While you are sharing freebies be sure to give tons of free valuable content as well. This will make you an authority in your market and help people trust you. Once they trust you and like your offering they will pay for it. The advantage to doing things for free when you are just starting out is free exposure, building a stronger portfolio and perfecting your craft. Just like soft launches and beta testing, you want feedback on your product/service and testimonials. What better way to collect this data than a test run before you are well established.
Funnels
Now that you have an engaged audience and loyal following who have critiqued your product/service and given you feedback and testimonials you are ready to create funnels to drive traffic. Use the work you created to expand your portfolio from your free services, and all of the valuable tools and resources you provided to your family, friends, followers, etc., to network. To do this, spend time on email marketing and upselling through newsletters. Attend as many events where you can network and meet likeminded people. Continue to tell everyone who your businesses is and what you do while posting consistently on social media. Be sure to cross promote with likeminded businesses/brands to attract a larger audience and spread brand awareness. And last, make sure to create social media funnels that upsell to your offerings. A good example is if you are a service based business who offers a master class, you can create a free eCourse that is packed with valuable content to drive consumers to a paid course. If you are a product based business you can offer a discounted product if they subscribe to a monthly membership, and so on. There are tons of ways to push your offering without being salesy.
